This Blog Post applies to Patient’s with Phonak Hearing aids
(if you have a different brand of hearing aids- ie. Widex, Resound, Starkey, Signia, Unitron, Oticon, etc instructions may differ)
We all love technology but we also know sometimes it can be temperamental! If your phone does a software update, you get a new phone, or your phone just goes on the fritz then these can be situations where you may lose your connection or pairing to your hearing aids for Bluetooth and the myPhonak app. We will provide step by step instructions below on how to pair everything should this happen.
Pairing to Bluetooth- which allows phone calls and audio to stream through your hearing aids
- Open the Bluetooth menu on your phone which is often found in the Settings menu. Turn on Bluetooth if it is not already on.
- Turn your hearing aids off and back on again. For disposable batteries just open and close your battery doors. For rechargeable batteries place your hearing aids in the charger for a moment and then take them back out of the charger.
- At the bottom of the screen for Bluetooth you should see something like R-Phonak HA, L-Phonak HA, or your first or last name-HA. Tap on this and then you should be connected for streaming. If you did not see one of these things pop up at the bottom of the screen, you may need to hit scan or search to find the Bluetooth devices.
Pairing to myPhonak app- which allows you to adjust your sound quality of your hearing aids from your phone
- Download the myPhonak app on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.
- Once the app is installed, open it and restart your hearing aids by either opening and closing your battery doors or placing hearing aids in charger for a moment and then removing them from charger.
- Tap on “pair device.”
- Once your hearing aids show up you will see something like LE-L Phonak HA along with LE-R Phonak HA, or you will see something like LE L-your first or last name HA along with LE R-your first or last name HA. Tap on these to pair to the app.
Troubleshooting Tips
- If you have lost connection to your Bluetooth or app you may need to follow these steps first before you can re-pair everything.
- Go to the Devices tab at the bottom of the screen of the myPhonak app.
- Click on Product Information and then Forget Devices.
- Go to the Bluetooth menu of your phone which is usually under Settings menu.
- Forget all the pairings that have to do with your hearing aids. These may include all three pairings or just one of them depending on if you are connected to both Bluetooth for streaming or the app, or both.
- Refer back to previous instructions on how to get re-paired again.
